Serra de Monchique Golf Club is the club associated with Silves Golf Course. The club aims to provide competitions, control handicaps and to provide a social life for its members guided by the values statements authorised by the membership. Its rules are set up to provide a structure around which the club can be run.
Serra de Monchique Golf Club was formed in 2005, at Morgado de Reguengo when the regular players were invited to form a club. There were 30 founder members and the first General Meeting of the membership was held on 8th November 2005. At the end of 2006 the club moved to Silves Course, which had just opened. Mark Ellerton was appointed Captain for 2007. Pestana's very favourable terms of green fee arrangements led to an substantial increase in membership in 2008. Many Northern European countries are represented, including a number of Portuguese members.
The club plays competitions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tuesdays are for singles competitions either as Monthly medal or Stableford Qualifier. On Thursdays some members play at Silves in a format of their own choice, but many members elect to play on the other courses within the Pestana group. On Saturdays there is a wide variety of game formats, normally as team competitions as pairs or teams of four players. There are occasional qualifying competitions on Saturdays to suit our members who are in full time employment. Our eventlist will show these.

What a great weekend.
We were very lucky with the weather on Saturday for the Jimmy Goodfellow Quaich competition. It was wonderful to see a full house plus, meaning that a partial shotgun start was needed. This obviously demonstrated the respect for the man. The following day, 84 members including their guests turned up to celebrate Jimmy’s life and of course Saint Andrew’s Day by meeting for a buffet lunch at Pinta Golf Club. it was a great way to complete a fantastic weekend. We were very honored that Dawn Goodfellow, accompanied by her Grandson in Law, Kevin, agreed to present the prizes and it was lovely to see many of her family joining us to celebrate the occasion. We were entertained by The Poor Man’s Band with a set of traditional Scottish songs followed by a set of up beat songs, written by Scottish artists. It was quite gratifying that €230 was raised for the Captain!s Charity, Portuguese Families in Need. Well done SdM and the all the prize winners.
Well done to all the competitors, some fabulous scores. It seems appropriate the winners on this Scottish occasion were "The Scotts"!

This year's Captain's Drive In took place in it's new month of April, and we were greeted to much warmer weather than we are used to in January.
A large group of members were present to witness the ceremonial putt out on the 18th and the drive off on the first. Out going Captain Des Briggs duly putted before handing over to new Captain Les Smith to smash his drive, slightly right but since our course change he was not in danger of finding water!
The format was two ball better ball with a shot gun start, and was won by Les himself and wife Jackie with a remarkable score of 49 pts! Well done Skipper!
After the competition lunch was served followed by presentations of last year's trophies which were unable to be distributed due to restrictions.
