Another great social day on Thursday 28th, although organiser Dave Tweed was feeling somewhat delicate after self inflicted damage to his liver the previous day! There were 15 men and 11 ladies playing (Mel & Karen Huxtable had to withdraw).
Three of the four mens' games were extremely close, as you can see below - but new members for 2013, Stuart Walker and Chris Nickels beat current Captain Geoff Cox and 2012 Captain Steve Edwards by 4 & 3.
A rare defeat for the two wiley matchplay men, but the victory helped Chris to consolidate his position at the top of this quarter's Matchplay League. Results as follows -
As mentioned Steve and Geoff lost their match 4 & 3, but I did not get a match report from them!
Stuart Deans, Warren Tennant and Richard Emrich played the "split six" game, and had a really tight match - so tight that Richard had a fairly short put to win the game on 18th, but completely "screwed up" and ended up coming 3rd, giving the win to Stuart, with Richard being the runner up.
Poor Peter Chapman had to partner myself, and although we had a few lucky breaks to go 4 up after 6 holes, we managed to finish the match all square, after a disastrous back nine! I must mention though that Don played really well after a dismal start, and his tired legs showed no sign of giving up - he even got a birdie 4 on the par 5 13th (from his own drive), which would have been for 5 points had it been a stableford game.
The final match also finished all square, between Stu & Larry and Ken & Ian. Again no match report, but everyone was happy after the game - so clearly it was a gentlemens' agreement to half the match!
Not many position changes this week, apart from Stuart Deans climbing up the table after his win. Full up to date league table will be sent to the Matchplay Men, but highlights are below:-
