Thursday July 13th saw 120 people participating in the 3rd annual Silves Golf Charity Day jointly hosted by Serra de Monchique Golf Club and Silves International Clube de Golf. Following the competition a lunch was held at the Silves club house where the by now 150 people enjoyed a BBQ lunch and were entertained by The Poor Man’s Band.

As well as income from the entrance fees there was a raffle, auction and chipping competition and the total raised for the chosen charities - Bombeiros Voluntários de Lagoa and Algarve Oncology Association – was excess of €7400.

Obviously such an amount would not be possible without the support of Pestana for the use of the course as well as provision of prizes and auction items. There were also many other sponsors who made donations. The Joint Charity Committee really appreciates their generosity.

Well done to the winning team of Jimmy Cruz, Malcolm Marshall, Peter Vaughan and John McMenamin who came in with a magnificent score of 147. The photo shows the winning team celebrating their victory.

An event like this requires a considerable amount of organisation and thanks goes to all those who played a part in making this a successful day not least the Joint Charity Committee members, Steve Edwards for his sterling work as auctioneer, Marja Chapman for organising the competition, Lynn Cook for her help at the check-in, the Pestana staff for their hard work in the heat and The Poor Man's Band for keeping the party going.
