Saturday 3rd of March saw the first ever St David’s Day golf competition organised by the SdM Welsh community – “The Taffia”. It has to be said that weather in the days leading up to the event and the prevailing weather forecast looked like it would be another washout a la 2017. However despite waking up to skies reminiscent of an April morning in the Rhondda Valley the decision was taken to go ahead with the Pairs Seattle Shambles event and luckily the rain stayed away long enough for the majority of the field to get around without getting too wet. 

As the players returned to the Silves clubhouse, which had earlier been decorated with a flight of Red Dragons as well as a few daffodils (and of course a sheep), they were presented with a “taste of Wales” by way of Caerphilly cheese, Welsh Cakes, Bara Brith (a Welsh fruit bread) and a medley of Welsh tunes. The Welsh Cakes and Bara Brith made by Pippa Tennant were particularly popular but I’m not sure the same can be said about the choir music!! The usual SdM party then commenced and after some scrutiny the results were announced.

Near pins prizes sponsored by The Taffia went to Les Smith (4th), Hannelore McMahon (6th), Bob McMahon (14th) and Janet Bell (16th).

The main event saw some excellent scoring with 45 points required to get into the prizes. In the end new members Steve and Julie Barratt with a magnificent 50 points were declared the winners and took home a bottle of wine and some daffodils to go along with their credits.
