Another National Day and another great event. With members dressed in green we celebrated the Irish day with a clear sky, quite a surprise after the recent weather. There were however a few lakes that are not normally present particularly on the 4th and 16th, and there were examples of members having to go bare foot into them to retrieve their golf balls!

Almost 80 players competed in a "greensomes" format with some very good scores. A partial shotgun start enabled most participants to stay for the presentations and gather in the clubhouse afterwards. The halfway house provided some typical Irish fare accompanied by the odd shot of Irish Whiskey.

We must congratulate Declan Byrne who virtually ran the day single handedly and also presented the prizes.

Our annual Norwegian Day as usual was a fabulous event, the weather was "changeable' but mostly dry .Typically for this day there was a huge field, 88 members and guests enjoyed the course which despite the appalling recent weather was in excellent condition, the halfway house offered some traditional Norwegian fare and some rather pleasant Aquavit!

Many stayed to congratulate the winners who were lucky enough to receive some super prIzes, not least the first prize of a whole smoked salmon. 
Vice Captain Keith Scott thanked our Norwegian members for a wonderful day, also all those helpers who make SdM's National days such a success.

The competition was very close, 4 teams had the lowest score with the final placings going on count back.

Yesterday we had our first Interclub League match away at Morgado.

We knew it was going to rain, but not how late and how much… well, most of us got drowned on the last few holes. That is the bad news.

The good news is, we started this season with a great result beating Morgado away with a 4-1 win, which gives us 9 points in our Division result.

Congratualtions to the whole SdM team and thank you to all the players who finished their matches in these circumstances.

Furthermore, the course was in a fantastic condition with extremely fast greens and the company and the after game lunch were great as well.

Next Interclub League match is against Morgado at Silves on Thursday the 10th of April.

The annual Roses vs Thorns this year turned out to be something of a St. Valentin's Day massacre with our ladies overwhelming the gents comprehensively 10.5 to 5.5.

A bright but windy day saw over sixty of our members dressed accordingly, men in blue and ladies in pink. However due to over subscription of men some had to play for the "other side". Congratulations to Ray Bisley who looked resplendant and rightly won a nice bottle of pink bubbly.

We must, as always, congratulate our Competition Secretary Eddie Kassner for another brilliantly organised event.

Wow what a great way to finish the SdM social calendar!
The SdM Christmas dinner dance was held at the excellent venue of Val d Oliveras with the members and guests all dressing to impress. Everyone enjoyed a pre dinner drink followed by a tasty buffet of mixed salads mains and desserts.
LM33, an outstanding local band, entertained the audience after dinner with excellent music , encouraging the majority of the audience onto the dance floor.

Today the Thursday boys and girls met up at La Bella Vita restaurant near Carvoeiro to celebrate the annual pre Christmas dinner. Organised as ever by the one and only Dave Tweed, 66 of us sat down to a sunlit lunch protected from the Algarvian winter by being indoors. Dave read out the league table from the bottom up and after the ritual humiliation of the losers, Per Lars (in second place) and Simon Arnes (overall winner) suffered the ultimate humiliation of having to accept one of Tweedie’s renowned trophies!
