The Ladies from the hills played again at Silves, the 8th Pink Ladies Day!
And they did not disappoint! Pink was the order of the day from the top to the bottom, Pink Flags, Pink Tee box markers, Pink score cards, not to mention 120 Ladies all dressed in Pink even down to shoes, with pink fizz, sandwich wraps, Indian nibbles, and meat patties, served with a smile by our fabulous SDM dream boys, the day went down in a blaze of Pink.
After the game, all the Ladies had drinks and cakes, which preceded the auction, prize draw and finally the prize giving.
The winning pair with a score of 50 points were Trish Bruce & Kerry Charles
Several Ladies won Nearest the Pins and prizes went down to 7th place.

The Captain's away day was held yesterday at Salgados golf club, followed by a meal at Sal Pica restaurant Alcantarilha. The golf course was in excellent condition, except for some of the tee boxes that are being refurbished, the greens were certainly better than anything that we have played on for the past few weeks.

The refurbished 12th hole was the designated hole for nearest the pin, this has now been made into an island green, so anything short or long is water bound, as our team found out when we scored nil points on the hole. Nearest the pin competition was won by Ian Williams and Denise Hennin, well done!!

I would just like to thank all those members that turned out in such heat to play in the Presidents Cup, I hope Julia and Ilario recover from there heat stroke they suffered and hope Ulla recovers from her injury soon.

The day was excellent helped by the food from Patricia and her friend, I wish I had brought more water with me (and reduced the alcohol), I did not believe we had such a healthy membership until so many refused the the booze !!!!!

The presentation went very well with only two of the prize winners not being able to attend, well done to Anne, Ian, Elena and Daniele our winners of the Cup this year. It was great to see you all there.

The 10th of June is Portugal Day and celebrates the death of the country’s greatest poet, Luis Camões, in 1580.This was the second Portuguese day held by SDM and whereas the first one celebrated freedom from dictatorship (“Dia Da Liberdade”) in order to avoid clashes with St George’s day and the Dutch day this date was chosen.
The weather was gloomy with even a hint of rain in the air, nevertheless 76 participants hit the fairways for a Seattle shambles.
A “ Portuguese Pastelaria” was provided at a halfway house manned by Erin and Jackie and the frango empadas (aka “chicken pies”) proved particularly popular.
Half of the “Poor Man’s Band” provided live entertainment to a packed verandah and performed a number of classics and they received the greatest ovation for their now famous only known Scottish version of “Grandola Vila Morena” the song that means so much to the Portuguese people as the trigger for the revolution on April 25th fifty one years ago.

On Sunday 1st June, a wine tasting event was held at the Scott's villa, it was attended by 44 enthusiastic wine tasters. After an initial drink or 2 there was an opportunity to taste 6 different wines, presented by Anett the owner of Berdissimo wine bar in Monte Carvoeiro. During the tasting, light snacks were served to cleanse the pallet, followed by a Tapas fare prepared by Alison. Everyone appeared to have a great time, taking the opportunity to mingle with friends and socialise with good food and free flowing wine (40 bottles to be precise) and beer.

Following the wine tasting, a raffle was held, which was wine tasting for 2 at Berdissimo wine bar, kindly donated by Anett. This was won by Les Smith, who's wife Jackie sold him the ticket, say no more! In total, we raised 485 euro on the day for the Captain's charity, which is Madrugada, a big thank you to everyone that contributed.

Today the players of our SDM Interclub League team had to get up around 6 am, to play an away match at Quinta de Lago Laranjal. Originally an orange grove, this beautiful par 72 championship course has some spectacular fairways and very "interesting" greens.

Our first tee-time was 8:40 and the last game to come in was after a 5-hour round at around 2 pm. The first game we lost, the next 2 we won, then we halved one and the last we won as well. Resulting in a 3,5 to 1,5 win in an away match. And this gives us an extra bonus point in the Interclub League Standings. As a result of this win, we are now leading Division 3 with 29 points after 4 matches. As you can see here
