Finally today we had a break in the weather, and it was lovely to see everyone with smiles on their faces on the course!
We navigated our way around the soggy course, trying to avoid the mud to the best of our ability - kudos to those who choose to wear white trousers or shorts/skorts - glad I'm not doing your washing!
It was a hard fought game, and went right down to the wire......and the winners were the Thorns 6 1/2 to 5 1/2 - well done Thorns.
Special thanks go to those brave men who played as Roses today - thank you. And another special thanks to Jan Daapan and Debbie Newton for their help in running the competition and sorting the results and sourcing the prizes.

So, after fostering Max for about 6 weeks, we have eventually found a forever home for him with a lovely couple who are going to adopt him and, in their words, love him to bits.
Photos of Max with new owners John and Heather Beaumont. A happy ending, at least for this lucky dog.
Many congratulations to SdM member Stale Schmidt on his first hole in one recently on the 13th at Silves. A smooth 7 iron and a perfect result!

SdM Captain welcomed a fine gathering of Past Captains competed in our annual competition, this year 12 were present and on a beautiful Algarve day they all enjoyed a tight game with some extremely average scores. There was however one particularly good score, last year's incubent Dave Darling at least managed to play to his handicap and returned with 36 points.
Les Smith organised both the competition and the evening meal, he did so with some aplomb, especially the dinner which was held at A Casa do Avô in Guia. A fabulous buffet to start was followed by delicious main courses and desserts.
A Memorable Competition and Celebration!
Better ball Pairs Battle for the Captain’s Jug
The much-anticipated Captain’s Weekend teed off in fine spirits on Saturday, bringing together club members for a thrilling better ball pairs competition. The event saw a fantastic turnout and a wonderful display of camaraderie and competitive golf, all in pursuit of the coveted Captain’s Jug.
Winners and Standouts
Congratulations are in order for Andy Richardson and Mick Girling, who emerged as the champions, claiming first place and taking home the Captain’s Jug. A close second were John Corrigan and Vitor Cortes, who gave a sterling performance to secure the runner-up spot. Third place was well-earned by the formidable duo of Ruth and Don Simpson.
Special Thanks:
The Ladies from the hills played again at Silves, the 8th Pink Ladies Day!
And they did not disappoint! Pink was the order of the day from the top to the bottom, Pink Flags, Pink Tee box markers, Pink score cards, not to mention 120 Ladies all dressed in Pink even down to shoes, with pink fizz, sandwich wraps, Indian nibbles, and meat patties, served with a smile by our fabulous SDM dream boys, the day went down in a blaze of Pink.
After the game, all the Ladies had drinks and cakes, which preceded the auction, prize draw and finally the prize giving.
The winning pair with a score of 50 points were Trish Bruce & Kerry Charles
Several Ladies won Nearest the Pins and prizes went down to 7th place.
The Captain's away day was held yesterday at Salgados golf club, followed by a meal at Sal Pica restaurant Alcantarilha. The golf course was in excellent condition, except for some of the tee boxes that are being refurbished, the greens were certainly better than anything that we have played on for the past few weeks.
The refurbished 12th hole was the designated hole for nearest the pin, this has now been made into an island green, so anything short or long is water bound, as our team found out when we scored nil points on the hole. Nearest the pin competition was won by Ian Williams and Denise Hennin, well done!!
