October Captain’s Charity Walk

The October Captain’s charity walk will be held on Friday 18^th October 2019.  This walk will start and finish at Lagos marina.

Description

The walk starts at Lagos marina, where there are plenty of bars and restaurants to have a coffee whilst you are waiting for the walkers to assemble.  The walk is 9 km in length and will take approximately 2 ¾ hrs with stops for the views etc.  The walk crosses the footbridge by the marina and we will walk along the esplanade to the fort (Forta da Ponta da Bandeira), then onto the cliffs, where there are beautiful views of Ponta da Piedade and onto the lighthouse.  Refreshments can be purchased from the café by the lighthouse.  From here we continue on the cliffs for a kilometre then head back into Lagos and walk part of the old city wall, built by the Romans, dating  back to the 16^th century.  We then continue into Lagos and back to the marina.

 This is a medium difficulty walk, with a few inclines and steps.  For those not wanting to walk this distance, it is possible to walk along the esplanade then back through Lagos stopping at cafes and shops.

Meeting Point/Parking

 We will meet at the corner of the marina by the steps leading to the lighthouse sports bar at 09:30 for a 09:45 start.  There is plenty of free parking by the marina on Rua Teixeira da Mota.

Equipment

Walking boots are advisable, however, sturdy walking shoes or trainers will be OK.  As mentioned, there are places to purchase drinks on route, but it is advisable to take drinks with you.

Captain’s Charity

 A voluntary contribution of €5 towards the Captain’s Charity can be made to the organiser of the walk

Please note that the walks organised by SDM or their representatives are done so on a voluntary basis and the club or organisers cannot be held responsible for your personal safety.

Lunch after the walk

 Lunch will be held at A Choupana, Mexilhoeira Grande.  This venue specialises in suckling pig, it was used on a previous walk and was well received by all concerned, it is a 15 minute drive from Lagos, back towards Portimao on the EN125.

The cost of the meal is a reasonable €15, a tip collection will be made afterwards
