Silves Walk and Lunch - Registration is Closed

SILVES WALK

This walk will start and finish in Silves.

Description

This walk starts at the main car park in Silves, where you will cross the old bridge and follow the lane running parallel with the river Arade.  This lane passes Quinta de Mata Mouros vineyard (previously a convent) and quickly picks up a track adjacent to the Arade.  We then head inland via a series of paths and country roads to loop back to the Quinta and return to Silves.  The walk is fairly gentle with a couple of inclines on tracks and a descent through an Orange grove.

For the nature lovers in the group various species of birds can be seen along the banks of the Arade.  The walk is approximately 8KM and will take in the region of 2 hrs.

Meeting Point/Parking

We will meet at the main carpark in Silves at 10:45 for an 11:00 start.  We will assemble by the Chapim cafeteria, so that those wishing to do so can have a tea/coffee prior to the walk. 

Directions to the car park:- When coming from the A22, turn left into Silves, at the traffic lights after the bridge turn left, pass Lidl on your right and at the roundabout turn left into the car park.

Equipment

Walking boots are advisable, however, sturdy walking shoes or trainers will be OK.  There is no opportunity to purchase drinks en-route, so please take adequate refreshments with you.

Lunch after the walk

Lunch will be held at the Pig Gourmet (Porco Goloso) restaurant, this is a lovely little Italian restaurant that seats a maximum of 28 people, hence the restriction on numbers.

• Traditional Parmigiana: (eggplant slices fried twice, bread crumbed, prepared in layers with fresh tomato, mozzarella, parmesan, basil, extra virgin olive oil and finished baking in the oven V
• Fiordilatte mozzarella bites with local tomato and basil V
• Mixed cold cuts and cheeses

Choice of Main Dish

• Pizzas (Margherita, Marinara, Tuna, Grilled Chicken, Salami onions and olives, Capricciosa (ham & mushrooms) and many more…
• Porchetta Toscana: Boneless, marinated and seasoned pork with garlic, rosemary, sage, Silves orange, salt and pepper and baked in the oven,
• Tuscany ragu Lasagna with mozzarella & parmesan, baked in the oven V
• Ravioli with fresh sheep ricotta and spinach with a fresh tomato sauce V
• Linguine alla Trabaccolara: octopus and squid cooked in advance with herbs, fresh tomatoes and fish stock. To finish this dish the linguine is added as well as fresh shrimps, mussels and clams, white wine, fresh tomatoes, garlic and parsley

Drinks

1 still water (1,5 l) or sparkling water (big Pedra) for 2 people

1 bottle of our good wine Montemor do Alentejo (red or white), for 2 people

and finally; a good Moscatel de Setubal and Cantucci Toscani (almond biscuit to be dipped in Moscatel) for everyone and of course the coffee.
