February 2020 SDM Club Walk
The next SDM walk will be held on Friday 28th February 2020. This walk will start and finish in Silves. Note:- We are not collecting for charity in 2020.
Description
This walk starts at the main car park in Silves, where you will cross the old bridge and follow the lane running parallel with the river Arade. This lane passes Quinta de Mata Mouros vineyard (previously a convent) and quickly picks up a track adjacent to the Arade. We then head inland via a series of paths and country roads to loop back to the Quinta and return to Silves. The walk is fairly gentle with a couple of inclines on tracks and a decent through an Orange grove.
For the nature lovers in the group various species of birds can be seen along the banks of the Arade. The walk is approximately 8KM and will take in the region of 2 hrs.
Meeting Point/Parking
We will meet at the main carpark in Silves at 10:45 for an 11:00 start. We will assemble by the Chapim cafeteria, so that those wishing to do so can have a tea/coffee prior to the walk. There are toilets in the car park (coin operated), however, these were closed on our test walk.
Directions to the car park:- When coming from the A22, turn left into Silves, at the traffic lights after the bridge turn left, pass Lidl on your right and at the roundabout turn left into the car park.
Equipment
Walking boots are advisable, however, sturdy walking shoes or trainers will be OK. There is no opportunity to purchase drinks en-route, so please take adequate refreshments with you.

Lunch after the walk
Lunch will be held at the Pig Gourmet (Porco Goloso) restaurant, this is a lovely little Italian restaurant that seats 35 people, hence the restriction on numbers.
TWEEDY’S BIT!
Note that all dishes are freshly made, the owner and chef are Italian and the head waitress is Portuguese, but speaks excellent English (and French).
THE MENU IS MORE EXTENSIVE THAN THE ORIGINAL SELECTION AND THERE IS NO LIMIT ON THE LIQUID CONTENT, SO KEITH & DAVE HAVE AGREED WITH THE OWNER THAT THE PRICE IS NOW €20 PER PERSON

Main
Tuscan Ravioli, with sheeps milk, ricotta, spinach, meat & fresh tomato sauce
Lasagne, classic Tuscan ragu with mozerella & parmesan, oven baked
Parmigiana Aubergine, like a vegetarian lasagne with layers of aubergine, fresh tomato, mozerella, parmesan, basil - oven baked
Porchetta Toscana, the Pig Gourmet special - 6 hour oven baked boneless pork seasoned with garlic, fennel, sage & rosemary
Devil’s Pizza - spicy salami, onions, olives, fresh chilli or a pizza of your choice
Dessert
Homemade gateaux etc.
Liquid
Masques de Montemor red & white wine (better than the house wine!)
Water (with & without gas), beer, sumo
Coffee tbc
NB - THE RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT HAS PUT NO LIMIT ON THE ABOVE DRINKS
