The Captain's away day was held yesterday at Salgados golf club, followed by a meal at Sal Pica restaurant Alcantarilha. The golf course was in excellent condition, except for some of the tee boxes that are being refurbished, the greens were certainly better than anything that we have played on for the past few weeks.

The refurbished 12th hole was the designated hole for nearest the pin, this has now been made into an island green, so anything short or long is water bound, as our team found out when we scored nil points on the hole. Nearest the pin competition was won by Ian Williams and Denise Hennin, well done!!

As most will be aware, there is plenty of water on the course waiting to catch any stray shots. I asked players to count how many balls they lost and in the evening we had a guess the total competition, in aid of the Captain's charity. There were 89 balls lost in total by the group, well done to Yvette Grisiger for not losing a single ball.

The overall competition was won by Ray Bisley, Dave Page, Mick Girling & Malcolm Marshall, with a fantastic 97 points.

The meal in the evening was excellent, everyone enjoying the food that was served and to say that this was basically achieved by one person, the manager Nuno, it was fantastic.

I would like to thank Denise for producing the draw and raising money for the Captain's charity from her ball selling, so far she has raised 140 euro. Finally, I would like to thank everyone who played in the competition and/or came for the meal and presentation, you made this a great success and is much appreciated.
