56 players entered what will now become the annual SdM Valentines Day matchplay competition in which the men play against the ladies, although 4 had to withdraw so there were 13 matches.  For the first Club Day in nearly two weeks, we had a rain free morning - much to the relief of organiser Dave Tweed, who was dreading having to postpone the high workload Saturday competition for the second week running.

Last year was virtually a "Valentine's Day Massacre" with the men almost acheiving a whitewash victory , so the guidelines were changed a bit for 2014 to give more advantage to the ladies - but clearly by not enough, as the men still won by 8 to 5, and 3 of those 5 by the ladies had men playing for them.

So, a few of the teams had men playing for the ladies, spearheaded by "Charlotte" Bradshaw, who remarkably won his match with Stephanie Edwards against Tony Seal and Brian Pike - whilst wearing a full length skirt for the whole round!

Lots of special award prizes, so as listed above, the two ladies with the biggest win were Marieke and Lydia who both won fold up umbrellas.  Biggest mens win prize went to Gary & Chris Nickels who each won a golf cap.  In fact Chris had a great day, and won no less than three prizes in total.  Other winners of the special awards were as follows:-

Two special,special awards of a bouquet of Valentine's day red roses were presented by Club Captain Gary Edwards to Ginny Evans Barrow - and also Pestana's Monica, who looked after us so well at the Clubhouse all afternoon.

And finally......the winning trophy sponsored by Stu & Maz McGill especially for this event, was presented to Club Captain Gary Edwards.  Gary then presented the runners up consolation trophy to Maz McGill - and we all lived happily ever after (we wish!!!).
