The first round of the Fermon Trophy - the Betterball Stableford competition between SDM, Carvoeiro G&CC, Alto and Vila Sol - was played at Alto on Monday 27th October. The course was not in the best condition with the slow and bumpy greens causing particular problems. However Vila Sol made light of the conditions with their five scoring pairs amassing an excellent 191 points. The other three clubs were all very closely matched with Alto returning 184 points, SDM 183 and Carvoeiro 182.

SDM did have one success with Ray and Eileen Groves combining to return 41 points, the highest total on the day. Other SDM scores were:
