In support of Lar de Criancas Bom Samaritano, Children’s Home, Alvor
The two main events this year to raise funds for the Children’s Home in Alvor are The Captain’s Charity Walk and the Joint Charity Golf on 6th July
The overall walk is 75 kilometres over a period of 4 days and although a relatively short distance, the terrain is classed as ‘somewhat difficult’. Both Maddy van Kleef and I have walked two of the stages as a reconnaissance to establish the difficulty and believe that most walking golfers are fit enough given that there is plenty of time each day. The terrain is sandy and the path in places narrow with a few points that are exposed to height; however in most cases, these can be avoided.
The following is an outline of the trip:
Tuesday 22nd May - afternoon
Travel to Vila Nova Milfontes for overnight stay
Wednesday 23rd May
Logistics Team to drive walkers to start point in Porto Covo
Walk from Porto Covo to Vila Nova de Milfontes
Start time 10:00
Distance: 20 km
Thursday 24th May
Walk from Vila Nova de Milfontes to Almograve
Start time: 10:00
Distance: 15 km
Logistics Team to drive walkers back to Milfontes for overnight stay
Friday 25th May
Logistics Team to drive walkers to start point in Almograve
Walk from Almograve to Zambujeira do Mar
Accommodation: Zambujeira
Distance: 22 km
Saturday 26th May
Walk from Zambujeira do Mar to Odeceixe
For those walking the last day only please meet at Odeceixe on the North side of the river of Praia de Odeceixe, where the Logistics Team will transport you to the start point at Zambujeira do Mar.
Meeting time at Odeceixe: 10:00
Start walking 10:30
Distance: 18 km
On the last day we will be celebrating our achievement near to the beach at Odeceixe with food and drink prepared by Chef Dave Tweed and Yvonne Pyper along with Steve Edwards who between them have kindly volunteered to provide the overall logistics.

Currently we have 5 walkers for the full walk, 9 for days 1-3 and 17 for the last day. If you wish to join us on any of the stages or join us at the finishing point then please contact either Dave Tweed or myself. Details of what kit you will need will be sent to all walkers by email in early May.
So far €1,689 has been raised for the Charity through the Captain’s drive-in, bunker money and for the walk, so a big thank you to all.
