Lar de Criancas Bom Samaritano
SDM has supported this very worthwhile charity in the past by providing Christmas presents and our own Jimmy Goodfellow taking on the role as Santa Claus.
Lar de Criancas Bom Samaritano is a private Social Solidarity Institution and has been a home for boys and girls since 1993. The home receives children from 5 to 12 years old that live in risk and/or dangerous social situations. Currently, the staff looks after 17 boys and 17 girls varying in age from 5 to 20.
The Institution’s main goal is to satisfy the basic needs of life in a regular familiar structure for children and teenagers, taking into consideration their individuality and privacy. They assure several levels of monitoring:
Clinical, pedagogical e educational, personal, social, psychological and economic. The home also promotes integration in the family and in the community.
Serra de Monchique Golf Club has raised 1,900 euros during the first 4 months of the year and aims to boost this figure significantly with two upcoming events; the Captain’s Charity Walk, known as The Fisherman’s Trail and a Golf Day, which will be held jointly with SICG on 6th July. Apart from day to day needs, such as cleaning materials, food, water, electricity etc the home has both children’s needs and fabric to the building. These comprise of items such as clothing, shoes, summer camp and bicycles for the children as well as repairs to the building, upgrading of lighting, a music system and at the higher end of the scale, a 7 seater bus. SDM has already provided some day to day cleaning materials and spectacles for 2 children. With the members generosity, that has been shown in the past, I am sure we will manage to make the children’s lives a little happier.
