Three Nights with the Captain
Boy, did we have fun!
A total of 26 of us enjoyed a trip to the Montecastillo resort in Spain, near to Jerez.
We had 20 golfers competing over 3 days and 6 ladies of leisure who either, relaxed by the pool, indulged in Spa treatments or went shopping in Jerez. In the evenings we dined mostly outside and on the second evening were entertained by a Wee Bit of The Poor Man’s Band. The following evening Stuart and Kath Deans held a General Knowledge Quiz and managed to raise 150 euros for the Captain’s Charity and on the last evening, all socialised over a few drinks. Fines were imposed on those guys who wore shorts in the evening, contravening the SdM trip dress code, raising a total of 125 euros; well done to those who remained defiant on the last day.
We enjoyed 3 games of golf on what proved to be a challenging course, however many played extremely well. They were a 3 ball match with 2 scores to count, a pair’s betterball stableford and a Seattle Shambles with all scores to count.
At the final dinner, a glass was raised to our dear friend Gerry Davis, who originally volunteered to organise the trip and who sadly passed away back in March. Our thoughts were with Judy and his family that evening. A big thanks to Dave Tweed for the continued support and logistical organisation of the trip. Here’s to a return to this fantastic resort.
