SdM, the future is artificial intelligence, oh, and the result of the Interleague match today.
Today the brave ladies and gentlemen of SdM took on the current league leaders of division three, Quinta do Lago in the latest thrilling instalment of our interleague season.
But wait, I digress, there has been much talk in the media recently about the future of journalists, solicitors, teachers and other associated professionals given the latest developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
Now there are those in the club who believe that the term “artificial intelligence” (or “AI” to those trendies in the know) means someone from the Northeast bribing the judges and winning an episode of Mastermind.
However, dear readers its much more than that – it’s a freely available web engine that lets you key in a request and receiving a response that in most cases exceeds the capability of the average human.
So this is a ground breaking experiment restricted only to those lucky members of SDM. Below you will find the answer to the question typed into the ChatGPT website “Please write a sportsmanlike report for the members of SDM golf club following today’s 5-0 victory in the Algarve interleague against the current league leaders Quinta do Lago played in very hot weather”.
Those still with the will to live can scroll down to the next section which is the attempt of your humble correspondent and the actual results.
So I ask those who have any interest to respond a.), b.) or c.) where,
a.) = I would like to replace all future missives and in fact the
entire Management committee with an Artificial Intelligence robot as soon as practical.
b.) = Lets restrict any human intervention to professional journalists
like our very own captain Per- Lars
c.) = All computers and technology should be placed in a lead box and
buried very deep in the earth´s core with a note “not to open before 2699”
ChatGBT´s response:
“Dear members of SDM Golf Club,
I am pleased to report that our team achieved a fantastic 5-0 victory in the Algarve interleague match against the current league leaders, Quinta do Lago. The match was played in very hot weather conditions, which added an extra challenge for our players.
Despite the challenging weather, our team showed great sportsmanship and professionalism throughout the match. They demonstrated excellent skill and strategy, which resulted in a well-deserved victory.
It is worth mentioning that the players of Quinta do Lago also exhibited excellent sportsmanship and put up a strong fight until the very end. It was a pleasure to witness such a high level of competitive spirit and fair play from both teams.
We are extremely proud of our team for their hard work and dedication to the sport. Their performance today is a testament to their commitment to representing our club with integrity and respect. We congratulate them on their victory and wish them continued success in their future matches.
Thank you to all our supporters who came out to cheer on the team. Your enthusiasm and encouragement undoubtedly played a significant role in their success.”
Seriously though guys:
The actual results:
Wendy Burns and Steve Newton won 2&1
Denis Hennin and Steve Edwards won 3&2
Per-Lars Tonstad and Paramjeet Bedi won 1 up
Des Briggs and John Hall won 2&1
Merja Ronkko and Dave Darling won 1 up
The human version:
We had a really great day – Quinta do Lago sent out a very strong team and our team performed magnificently to beat the league leaders 5-0.
Admittedly playing at home is easier but this was a stupendous result and played in a wonderful spirit.
Under the rules of the Interleague we gain two points per match won so this was worth a massive ten points to us.
On the 19th we travel to QDL for the return match and their captain has already indicated that they will be putting out their best possible team – so please help Per-Lars and I by registering for this fixture and providing the strongest possible pool of players.
Thanks to everybody who played and supported us
