"Not the Ryder Cup" was held on Saturday the 25th September in beautiful sunshine.

The teams were divided in as equal handicaps as Eddie could muster. The USA being dressed in red and Europe in Blue

As the teams came in it was clear Europe was in complete control and romped home with a resounding 41 1/2 points over the USA  22 1/2 points

Thank you to the wonderful Margaret and Joe O´Reilly for taking some great photos

On the Patio there was a great atmosphere as most members stayed for the presentation.

What a fantastic day we had! 60 ladies dressed in pink, many with fab pink hair do's playing golf at Silves.

The SdM 'dream boys' did a superb job of looking after the registrations, cards, selling brooches and Mulligans. Not to mention setting up the course with pink tee markers and flags. They happily served us with fizz, water and nibbles. Certainly made it a special day to remember.
The event has raised in excess of €3,000 for the Algarvean Oncology Association, fantastic! This will help fund the mobile breast screening unit and hopefully save Ladies lives.
On behalf of aoa and the SdM Pink Ladies we would like to express our appreciation to everyone who has played in the event, donated a prize, food or drink, given their time to prepare the event in some way and of course the 60 lovely ladies who played.

Each lady received a set of 3 golf balls donated by Nevada Bob’s, Almancil.

There were 6 pairs that scored 47 points! Count back had to go to back 9 and then back 6. Thank you to Richard Emrich and Peter Chapman for collating the results.

Les and Jackie Smith

Our Captain for this year, Les Smith, presided over his "Big Weekend" and what a fantastic two days in was. Saturday saw the field of 76 play a 2 ball better ball competition with some incredible scores.

The weather was perfect and the course played well. Les and wife Jackie were ably supported by Don Forrester and Joe O'Reilly in the buggies supplying ample refreshments and taking the photographs.

After the completion of the golf the nearest the pins and fairway centre line were presented.

In his speech, Les thank all those involved in helping him make it such a special day including all of the Pestana staff.

On Sunday evening the presentation dinner was held at the wonderful Luna Diamante Restaurant in Sesmarias Albufeira. The location was fantastic and the food delicious.

After the prize giving, Les once again thanked everyone involved in the organising, Jodie Caudle for the photographs, and with a special mention and a lovely bouquet for his better half Jackie.

The SDM Interclub team took on Levante GC today at Quinta da Cima golf course near the Spanish border. A long fabulous course in good condition but surprisingly preferred lies were allowed.

The 3 course after match lunch with wine and coffee was exceptional and professionally served in beautiful surroundings. All this for just €25 including green fees. If you are a handicap of 24 or less and want to be considered for team selection, please sign up on the website.

Levante put out a strong quality team with a smattering of single figure handicappers. Despite our teams best efforts we succumbed to a 4&1 defeat, highlighting the importance of course knowledge and the difficulty of picking up points away from home. Well done to Dave and Marijke on their win and all the team for signing up, turning out and representing your club.

Results as follows:

Wayne Sinfield and Mel Huxtable - Lost 2&1

Per Lars Tonstad and Chris Zisimides - Lost 8&6

Dave Darling and Marijke Rombouts - Won 2&1

Steve Edwards and Les Smith - Lost 3&2

Des Briggs and Wendy Burns - Lost 3&1

A team of ten SDM ladies played a friendly Matchplay game at Vila Sol on Thursday 19th August. There was indeed a very friendly atmosphere both on the golf course and at the lunch after the game. The SDM ladies came away with a great win. Three and a half to one and a half, a great result on a tricky course. Well played ladies!

Members,

Just a quick note to say thank you for your support over the weekend.

It was great to see over 80 players at Silves on Saturday for the President's Cup competition. Well done Wendy Emrich, Pete Steward, Steve and Julie Barratt who posted a magnificent 126 points to win the trophy. The second place team of Nigel Cotterill, Sandi Rumfitt, Kevin and Jan Bell also broke the 120 point barrier scoring a more than creditable 123.

I would like to thank Eddie Kassner for his effort and patience in sorting out the draw and collating the results.
The President's Lunch at Brasserie Rosal on Sunday was an enjoyable affair with over 70 members and guests attending. We were treated to a great lunch by Andi, Nico and the rest of the team and well entertained by the tireless singer/guitarist Ardelino.
