Following an extremely cold and early start at 7.42, with many SdM members in attendance, New Captain Mags hit her first drive 125 metres, a distance guessed correctly by President Peter Chapman, who kindly donated his winnings to her Charity - Algarve Oncology Association.
The total sum raised on the day, due to members generosity, was an impressive €678.
SdM members are delighted to see our new Trophy Cabinet in the Clubhouse at Silves. A beautiful design that shows off our fabulous array of brand new trophies.

What a great weekend.
We were very lucky with the weather on Saturday for the Jimmy Goodfellow Quaich competition. It was wonderful to see a full house plus, meaning that a partial shotgun start was needed. This obviously demonstrated the respect for the man. The following day, 84 members including their guests turned up to celebrate Jimmy’s life and of course Saint Andrew’s Day by meeting for a buffet lunch at Pinta Golf Club. it was a great way to complete a fantastic weekend. We were very honored that Dawn Goodfellow, accompanied by her Grandson in Law, Kevin, agreed to present the prizes and it was lovely to see many of her family joining us to celebrate the occasion. We were entertained by The Poor Man’s Band with a set of traditional Scottish songs followed by a set of up beat songs, written by Scottish artists. It was quite gratifying that €230 was raised for the Captain!s Charity, Portuguese Families in Need. Well done SdM and the all the prize winners.
Well done to all the competitors, some fabulous scores. It seems appropriate the winners on this Scottish occasion were "The Scotts"!

The first organised club walk for some time was very well attended and brilliantly led, as always, by Keith and Alison Scott. Starting from Gregorios up and along Pedreirinha Hill finishing after 6.5kms in Vale Fuzeiros, it was filled with stunning views along the ridge, some interesting Archaeological sites along the route which had some challenging climbs and some steep descents however, they were all worth the effort.
The 34 walkers built up a hearty appetite which was just as well as the lunch at Restaurant A Grelha was fabulous and plentiful!

Past SdM Captain Des Briggs hit his first hole in one since 1996 when he holed out at the third today.
Playing slightly uphill Des hit his 5 hybrid, slightly thin to be honest, however a kind bounce and a straight roll saw his ball dissappear!
What was more impressive is that he chose the final of the Men's Singles KO comp to do it, sadly for Des the final result wasn't as spectacular as the ace, he eventually lost a very tight match 3&2 to another Past Captain Steve Edwards.
