The weather provided for a wonderful weekend for this year's Presidents Day. The competition on Saturday was a seattle shambles, very competitive and with a fabulous turnout. President Steve Edwards was on the first tee to greet all 80 players, he also gave out some golf balls and fruit. Sue and Rosemary were also in attendance at the halfway house providing members with some superb home made pies courtesy of Roger at Pies "n" That in Lagos.
The competition was won on countback:
Winners: Gary Edwards, Gill Edwards. Euan Pyper and Yvonne Pyper.
Runners Up: Gerry Davis, Judy Davis, Des Briggs and Barbara Briggs
Thursday July 13th saw 120 people participating in the 3rd annual Silves Golf Charity Day jointly hosted by Serra de Monchique Golf Club and Silves International Clube de Golf. Following the competition a lunch was held at the Silves club house where the by now 150 people enjoyed a BBQ lunch and were entertained by The Poor Man’s Band.
As well as income from the entrance fees there was a raffle, auction and chipping competition and the total raised for the chosen charities - Bombeiros Voluntários de Lagoa and Algarve Oncology Association – was excess of €7400.
I am pleased to inform you that the ground works behind the 17th green will now be classed as ground under repair (GUR) for all SDM competitions until further notice, however will remain as out of bounds (OB) for any Pestana events that they may hold at Silves. For that reason, there will be no blue lines painted nor blue stakes around this area, however a dropping zone has been created on the left of the green near to the OB wall on the left of the fairway as you approach the green. To simplify matters, if your ball is over the plastic mesh fencing or the fencing interferes with your swing you must proceed to the dropping zone and drop a ball there, without penalty and the ball may be cleaned. Please do not enter into the GUR area to retrieve your ball as the club will not take any responsibility for any injuries incurred.

SdM Ladies tie for the lead after the second round of the VACS Trophy today at Vila Sol. firstly a big thank you to the SdM Ladies who played at the "crack of dawn" in absolute freezing conditions. this was reflected by the low scores of the majority of golfers. however a few managed to post a good score and well done Ulla Bischoff who kept the team in the frame with her 34 points and 2nd place in the individual competition. the other 3 placings were all taken by the Home team players Vila Sol. The scores now stand at 1st. SdM and Vila Sol. 317 pts 3rd. Carvoeiro Club. 304.
All to play for in the final round At Pinta on either May 31st or 1st June.
SdM members have kindly been donating unwanted golf equipment over the last couple of years to the Drive Project organised by David Moura of the FPG.
This project has set up golf training for teachers and pupils in schools and colleges in Portugal to promote the popularity of our sport.
This document is their plan of activities and tournaments during 2017 which members may find of interest.
