After the anti-climax last game of the 1st quarter's league table, when the positions could not be affected by the results, April got off to a good start with four matches - and some new names at the top.
Full details of the first quarter league is available to all on request (and will be circulated to Matchplay men shortly). 1st place went to the "man with the pen" (Dave Tweed), 2nd to Peter Chapman and 3rd to Chris Nickels - who won €50, €30 & €20 respectively. Main interest to the others is that there is €46 left over from the first quarter entry fees that will go towards our Christmas Party fund!
On Thursday 3rd April numbers were slightly down with just 14 players, as 4 of the regulars were playing a Club Knockout game. This quarter will be affected by several MMM regulars being selected for Interleague Matches (hopefully!), so only the best 5 scores from the 13 weeks will count towards the final league table instead of 7 between January and March, which should give all members the opportunity of winning the 2nd quarter spoils. The Captain and Secretary were both present at the Italia Restuarant in Ferragudo recently for the presentation of a cheque for €250, continuing their generous sponsorship. The cost will help with the purchase of club shirts which are available via the Captain or management committee members. The Italia logo will continue to appear on the sleeve.
Owners Rafa and Enza Salmone were also kind enough to present the club with discount vouchers which are currently with Dave Tweed and will be presented as prizes in club competitions.
A fine day on Saturday saw another fabulous turn out by SdM members in support of the ever popular St Patrick's Day. Played on the evergreen turf at Silves the players were ideally camouflaged with their emerald green costumes! Once again there was the ever popular halfway house providing ham cobbs and Guiness ablly served by Sue and Rosemary.
Saturday saw a fantastic day at Silves when SdM entertained a group of Junior Golfers from the Pestana Academy. Playing in a Matchplay format the young golfers had a great time learning some of the arts of Matchplay. The juniors were partnered with a SdM member and the competition was fierce. After the game the prizes were presented and SdM treated the young golfers to Lunch. Many thanks to Charles Bradshaw for his work in organising the match and Captain Gary Edwards for working hard to provide such a great day. SdM Member Peter Chapman celebrated today when he holed out at the par 3 fourth hole at Silves Golf Course today. It was Peter's first Ace.
Congratulations to this months medal winners, both receive a club medal winners shirt. Best net score was Warren Tennant with 66, Second place went to Miguel Heliodoro who had a brilliant 73 gross ~ 67 net, and third place went to Chris Price with net 68.
The Italia Restaurant in Ferragudo is reopening for the season this Saturday 1st March.
To celebrate Chef and Owner Rafa Salomone presented Club Captain Gary Edwards with some vouchers to be presented as prizes in our future competitions. Rafa and wife Enza have been great supporters of SdM and are one of major sponsors. They will be sponsoring our club shirts again this year and Rafa also has some ideas for other items!
